1. Make them aware during the interview process your expectations.
We all do this. Interview the applicants, do background checks, call references, but do you explain your expectations thoroughly? Make sure to take the time to explain the culture, how small business works, the fact that you want them to treat this as if it were their own business. Then ask them, “knowing this, do you still want to work here?” If nothing else, it will give them a chance to say no if they are not in it to win it. In that case, consider yourself lucky you took the time to talk to them in the beginning. Make your intentions for them clear from the beginning, but do it in a way that is motivating and exciting. The goal is to make the anxious to come to work every day.

1.Flyers/ Leaflets – Advertise your new business in shops, community centres, mums & toddler groups, your workplace and village hall notice boards.

2.Articles – Articles are a great way to promote your business and will always contain a link to your blog or website along with your name at the foot of the article. Article writing can easily become addictive and lead to you becoming an expert author who is well respected.

3. Seminars/ Webinars – If you are building a team of your own, why not consider hosting a webinar to provide weekly/ monthly product training with a Q&A session at the end for people to get to know one another. Find out if your company offers a group webinar which you can invite people to.

Enroll yourself in a Frequent flyer program if you travel to a particular city often. I would suggest that you sign up for ALL the free mileage points/loyalty programs you come across that would be of benefit to you. If you’re using online sites like Expedia and CheapOair, it’s likely you’ll be traveling with two different airlines so you can be earning points on both. It would be advantageous also though to accumulate as many points as you can under the one frequent flyer program so you can redeem points quicker. You would be best to use the frequent flyer program you travel with the most eg United airlines Mileage Plus Program or bmi whatever airline it maybe. Don’t forget to also keep your boarding passes with you until your statement has arrived so you can cross check all points have been received.

Business Pace
When my daughter ran distance races, she trained her body to build endurance by putting in the necessary miles daily. She also exercised her mind to learn course management. She discovered in her first races that adrenaline would push her out hard and fast from the start and carry her for a while. If she kept up that pace, she often led, but when she approached the finish, she had no energy left and fell way back. The only result that counts is when you cross the finish line. She discovered how to pace herself, starting strong, settling into a comfortable, economical pace, with enough reserve for a powerful finish kick. Such a pace allowed her to compete and succeed.

When it’s back to school time, many schools, organizations, sports teams and clubs are looking for easy fundraising ideas that provide the best value for the consumer and the highest profit for their organization. The most rewarding fundraising endeavor on the market today featuring high-profit and high-value is carefully selected, popular fundraising cards.

Fundraising cards have become increasingly popular because they generate a 70-100% profit – compared to cookie dough and candy, which yield only a 40% return. Consumers also love these fundraising cards because they are very high in value. The three fundraising cards that will generate the most profit for your organization this school year are: the City Savings Card, the Dinner & A Movie Card, and the Online Savings Card.

Over time, every business develops a certain amount of fat. These are processes, tasks and departments which do not directly serve a key objective of the organization. Essentially they can be trimmed without affecting the organization’s ability to deliver value to its customers. Lean techniques are intended to remove that fat from the organization.

Innovation is the life blood of most if not all organizations today. Being able to identify and determine new and better ways to do things is mandatory to survival. Mere improvement isn’t enough. You need to be able to radically improve or shift your value proposition in order to compete successfully.

Strategic planning is a management instrument. As with any executive tool, it is used to help an institution do an improved job – to concentrate its energy; ensure that members of the organization are working toward the same goals; and to appraise and direct the organization in a changing environment.  Strategic planning is a disciplined effort to produce decisions and actions that shape and guide what a school is, what it does, and why it does it, with a focus on the future. Strategic planning has its complexities in terms of what it requires. It is aimed at an overall focus of the organization’s resources on mutually preset planned quantifiable outcomes. Useful plans include an organization’s entire resources and purpose so it must be developed calculatingly and attentively (McNamara, 2008).

In recent years the destination sectors in FDI have became more varied.  FDI inflows have shifted from infrastructure, natural resources and export driven manufacturing to other areas such as retailing, tourism, construction and off shore services.  A World Bank study showed that cumulative FDI inflows to the retail sector in the 20 largest developing countries amounted to US$ 45 billion in 1998-2002 (about 7 per cent of the total of these countries).  The study showed that after liberalization; countries such as Brazil, Poland and Thailand have received significant FDI in retailing.
